March 2023
Howdy Rosemontians! I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
Contact 311
As we move into spring, be sure to contact 311 if you see potholes, ice dams etc. The city can only help if they are aware of the issue. You can call them, submit it online or else you can use their app (it works quite well actually).
Speaking of 311, we have been asking the City for port-a-potties on the west side of Confederation Park (near the hall). The more requests they receive, the more likely it will be implemented. So if you want to have bathrooms to use if you’re having a picnic, submit a request. Every bit helps!
Volunteers
I want to dedicate the rest of this message to volunteers.
On February 11, in collaboration with Rosemont School Council and Calgary Police Service, we hosted an amazing Winter Carnival with 300-400 attendees. We had live music, a police command bus, firetruck, Bonhomme, hot dogs, drinks, desserts, a raffle, skating, a fire and more. It was, simply put, incredible to see so many people out and enjoying time together. I haven’t seen anything like it in my 6 years here in Rosemont. This type of event doesn’t just happen. It takes hours of planning, collaborating, buying, making, setting up, serving, and cleaning.
I want to do two things
Putting out a call for volunteers. We can't do events like this without volunteers.
We rely on a small group of volunteers time and time again and it can be exhausting. Without more volunteers, we won’t be able to put on events. With that preface, we are hoping to do a May pub night and Stampede breakfast. If you would like to help plan these, please contact us, otherwise we may not be putting them on.
Speaking of volunteers, we have been running our Shinny program for the past 24 years, with hundreds of kids getting to enjoy the joy of hockey at our outdoor rinks. Without amazing volunteers like Grant Parks and Jean Blackstock, we can’t run it. This is Grant’s last year coaching and Jean needs help with coordinating it next year. Without a coach and coordinator, we can’t run it.
Please contact us if you would like to help and we can put you in contact with Grant and Jean.
Thanks again for reading all the way to the end. As always, keep looking after family, friends, neigbours and yourselves. -Matthew
